Assessments

Does this sound familiar?

  • ‘She's putting in her best effort, but I can see her confidence gradually slipping away…’

  • ‘They need to focus and put their mind to it…’

  • ‘Is he getting additional help?’

  • ‘We have tried to support as much as we can, but we are worried about next year when there is less support available…’

A comprehensive psycho-educational assessment can offer valuable insights into underlying factors that contribute to your child’s challenges in academic, social or other areas of functioning.

Hayley’s assessments are purposeful, deliberate and thorough. Hayley believes that the assessment process should be a therapeutic experience, empowering individuals to better understand and reframe their unique profiles. She approaches the process of discovery — including testing, observations, and interviews — with sensitivity and affirmation.

What would an assessment with Hayley look like?

  • 50min Initial Consultation with Parents (Online): This is a good opportunity for Hayley to understand your child’s background, including the onset and development of concerns, etc, and for parents to clarify any questions they might have before making a decision to do a comprehensive assessment.

  • 8-12hrs of comprehensive data collection, including

    • School observation (where applicable): Through recess and classroom observations, Hayley obtains a snapshot of your child’s learning behaviours and social interactions in their natural learning environment. This source of information contributes to a multi-modal and multi-setting approach in assessing your child’s social-behavioural patterns.

    • Interviews and rating-scales: In line with a multi-modal and multi-setting approach, Hayley uses interviews and rating scales to understand the child’s behavioural patterns over time through the eyes of the child and their support figures (including teachers, parents and any other key support figures).

    • Neuropsychological tests (in-person): Hayley uses reliable and valid tests (e.g., WISC-V, WIAT-III, CTOPP-2) to assess your child’s cognitive and academic profile. This source of information is important when distinguishing underlying factors contributing to the concerns. Testing appointments are scheduled on Sundays and/or Public Holidays.

  • In-depth analysis and where applicable, diagnostic decisions based on DSM-5 TR guidelines

  • 50min Feedback Session with Parents: Hayley provides a feedback session with parents to discuss the assessment findings and recommendations.

  • Written Report: Hayley delivers a thorough report that is both professional and easy-to-understand. Her goal is to provide insights that will enhance support figures’ understanding and approach to working with your child.

  • Follow-up options available:

    • Post-assessment discussion with teacher or key support figures

    • Post-assessment discussion with child

    • Follow-up / consultation with parents 6 months after the assessment
