About Hayley
Affirming Stance
Hayley seeks to be affirming, sensitive and respectful of individual and intersecting forms of diversity. She places a strong emphasis on reflective practice (individually and through supervision) to ensure her professional work remains purposeful and has a positive impact.
Focus on Child and Adolescent Mental Health
Hayley’s expertise lies in helping individuals and families navigate social-emotional challenges. Her areas of focus in therapy include:
Maladaptive Coping Behaviours: Identifying and addressing both internalising behaviours (e.g., withdrawal, self-criticism) and externalising behaviours (e.g., aggression, defiance) that may stem from unmet emotional needs, helping individuals to discover adaptive coping strategies that support long-term emotional health.
Peer Relationship Dynamics and Social Challenges: Supporting children and teens facing challenges with social integration, peer conflicts, and building or sustaining healthy friendships, while fostering empathy and developing skills for fulfilling interpersonal relationships.
Academic Stress and Performance-Related Anxiety: Addressing the pressures associated with academic achievement, test anxiety, and school-related stress, developing healthier perspectives on success and failure.
Parent-Child Conflict and Family System Tensions: Fostering communication and enhancing mutual understanding to reduce conflict and strengthen family connections.
Divorce, Separation, and Family Transition: Guiding children and teens through the emotional and practical adjustments that accompany divorce or separation, helping them process complex feelings, build resilience, and adapt to new family dynamics.
Understanding of Neurodivergence
Hayley has had the privilege of working closely with numerous neurodivergent individuals, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, Tourette’s, and so on. Through comprehensive assessments, consultations and therapy, she has partnered with them to identify their unique neurodivergent profile, to harness their strengths, to empower advocacy efforts and to improve access to support for their wellbeing.

Theoretical Frameworks / Approaches
Hayley draws upon a variety of therapeutic frameworks, including attachment- and relationship-based approaches such as the Circle of Security parenting model, to foster secure and healthy relationships. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) alongside third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which emphasise the importance of integrating a full spectrum of psychosocial and contextual factors. This comprehensive approach allows her to address the complex interplay of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, ultimately guiding individuals toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth.
